Tournament Director

Over a career spanning more than 25 years, Arda Fındıkoğlu has successfully executed more than 300 national and international events, earning recognition as the world’s premier director and one of the most respected figures in the global backgammon community. His involvement will draw significant international attention to Cape Town, guarantee a smoothly run championship, and help position the African Open as one of the major events of the year.

Doron Claxton is a Cape Town-based entrepreneur and lifelong backgammon player with a passion for growing the game and building community through it. After reaching the final of the 2025 World Backgammon Championship in Monte Carlo in his first major international event, Doron is excited to help bring Africa Open to life and showcase Cape Town as a world class destination for backgammon.

Nick Groll started Cape Town Backgammon in 2013 and the South African Backgammon Association (SABGA) in 2020 and is passionate about bringing new players to the table in a way that honours the inclusive, social and competitive aspects of backgammon. Nick is very excited about being part of Africa Open, the realisation of a long term plan to connect the local backgammon community with the broader international scene.

Results from the Master and Intermediate categories of this championship will count toward Gammon Slam 2026 Annual Backgammon Tour Rankings.
